Industrial laser marking in Tijuana: permanent identification

A laser does not deposit anything onto the part — it modifies it. That is why the mark does not wipe off with solvent, does not lift under heat and does not depend on anyone replacing a consumable.

How a laser actually marks

Depending on material and power, the beam produces four distinct effects: color change through chemical or molecular alteration, carbonization, foaming, or outright melting and ablation of material.

Choosing the right effect is the technical part of the job. On anodized aluminum we aim for color change without breaking the layer, because breaking it ruins the corrosion protection. On stainless we aim for dark contrast without removing material, so as not to create a corrosion initiation point. On plastic, controlled foaming gives contrast without distortion.

Traceability that survives the process

A laser-marked data matrix stays readable after thermal cycling, solvent washing, handling and years of service. That is what separates industrial marking from a label.

We mark part numbers, lot numbers, dates, print revisions, logos and scanner-readable codes. On parts where every unit needs unique identification, marking is serialized piece by piece.

No consumables, no wear

There is no ink to run out, no pad to dry, no engraving cutter to dull. Cost per piece is identical between the first part and the ten-thousandth, and there is no downtime to change tooling.

There is also no physical contact: the part is not clamped under pressure and does not deform, which makes it possible to mark thin, finished and even already-assembled components without risking damage.

Laser marking in Tijuana: where the mark goes, and how big

Mark placement matters as much as the mark. A part number engraved on a face that gets machined later disappears; one placed in a stressed area can become the point where a crack starts; one put where the operator cannot see it forces the part to be flipped at every check.

Before running the lot we agree with you on the face, the position and the character height, and we run a test piece. For data matrix codes the minimum size depends on the reader your plant uses, so we would rather you tell us the scanner model: it is faster than discovering in production that the code will not scan.

Frequently asked questions about laser engraving in Tijuana

Yes. Because it is a modification of the material rather than a deposited layer, it does not dissolve. Our electronics customers put it through thermal cycling and isopropyl cleaning with no loss of legibility.

Yes, it is a standalone service. Note that on already-finished or anodized parts we run a test on a sacrificial unit first to confirm parameters before running the lot.

Vector: AI, EPS, SVG or DXF. A JPG or PNG can be used, but the result depends on resolution and it is almost always better to vectorize first; if you do not have the vector, we create it.
